BEN STEWART - LONDON PHOTOGRAPHER & DOP
Ben Stewart is a cinematographer and photographer from Wellington, New Zealand, now based in London. He has worked as Director of Photography on music videos and documentaries for respected artists including Jordan Rakei, Allysha Joy, Arjuna Oakes & Serebii, and Imogen Heap among many others. He was also the cinematographer for There is a scratch on the inside of my right knee, a funded short film inspired by the poetry of Paula Harris. The film has been screened at festivals across England, Ireland, Canada and the United States.
Ben’s work is rooted in a deep understanding of lighting and visual storytelling. He collaborates closely with clients to develop a look that reflects their brand and identity. Alongside filmmaker William Cho, Ben co-runs Studio Halfgray, a video production company dedicated to creating engaging and impactful content.
In photography, Ben brings experience across both creative and commercial environments. With a professional kit of gear and an easy-going personality, Ben is a natural collaborator. His portfolio includes work for MBIE, Noah’s Ark Teahouse, UberEats, Mazda, Cigna, Vodafone, Victoria University, The Spinoff and several other brands and organisations.
Ben holds a BMus (Honours) in Music and a Graduate Diploma in Marketing from Victoria University. He also participated in the 2018/19 Victoria University Entrepreneurship Bootcamp where he further developed his marketing and business capabilities. This knowledge guides his approach to every project, ensuring not only strong visuals but a considered release strategy. Ben can support clients in planning creative campaigns that maximise impact on social platforms. His photography credits include performances by Thundercat, Joe Armon-Jones, The Black Seeds, Jarni Blair (Summer Thieves) and the Royal New Zealand Air Force Band.
Ben is currently collaborating with Jordan Rakei on social content, capturing cinematic and authentic short-form visuals that resonate strongly with Jordan’s audience.
